About Piriri

A journal born from a love of birdsong and the Czech landscape

Why We Listen

Piriri began as a simple idea: to share the remarkable birdsong and nature sounds that fill the Czech Republic's forests, meadows, and mountains throughout the year. The name "Piriri" itself echoes the cheerful call notes that small passerines make as they flit through the canopy, a universal sound of the natural world that transcends language.

Founded in 2024 by a small group of nature enthusiasts based in Prague, Piriri has grown into a resource for anyone interested in the acoustic dimension of the Czech landscape. We believe that listening to nature is one of the simplest and most rewarding ways to connect with the environment, and that the Czech Republic, with its diverse habitats and rich birdlife, is an ideal place to cultivate this practice.

Share Knowledge

We write practical, research-informed guides to help readers identify, locate, and appreciate the birdsong and nature sounds of Czechia. Our articles draw on ornithological literature, personal field experience, and insights from the Czech birding community.

Inspire Exploration

From detailed location guides to seasonal tips, we aim to encourage more people to step outside and listen. You do not need expensive equipment or expert knowledge to enjoy birdsong. A quiet morning and an open ear are enough.

Support Conservation

Every article we publish links to reputable conservation organizations. We believe that the more people appreciate the natural sounds around them, the more motivated they become to protect the habitats that produce those sounds.

What We Cover

Our focus is on the intersection of birdsong, nature sounds, and the Czech landscape. We write about specific bird species and their songs, recommend listening locations across Bohemia and Moravia, offer seasonal birdwatching guides, and explore the cultural significance of birdsong in Czech life. We also occasionally feature broader topics related to acoustic ecology and nature recording.

All content on Piriri is freely available. We are not affiliated with any commercial entity and do not accept paid placements. Our recommendations are based solely on personal experience and public information from trusted sources such as the Czech Society for Ornithology, IUCN Red List, and Xeno-canto.
